Quick answer: At one month a baby sleeps deeply, has no neck control and reacts to light. Build the shoot around sleeping portraits, parent-and-baby frames and details — hands, feet, hair — using one window and a plain sheet, in 20-minute bursts after a feed.
One month is the sweet spot most families miss. The newborn curl has softened but the baby is still tiny, still sleeps through most of a session, and has not yet developed the alertness that makes posing harder. These are the setups we shoot at one-month sessions across Bengaluru homes.

2
Hair swirl from above
The crown of the head fills the frame. It changes completely by month three.
3
Sleeping curl in a parent's arm
Arm across the frame diagonally, baby resting in the crook, face towards light.
4
Hand around a finger
The single most-printed frame from any one-month session.
5
Pink or plain — skip the theme
One coloured wrap against a neutral sheet reads better than a themed setup that will look dated.
6
Traditional black thread and kajal detail
Close-up of the wrist thread, shot at f/2.8 so only the thread is sharp.
7
Baby on dad's chest, both asleep
Shoot from a standing position looking down. Available light only.
8
The stretch
Arms above the head mid-stretch — wait for it with the shutter half-pressed.
9
Wrapped burrito portrait
Muslin wrap, arms tucked, only the face visible. Calms most one-month babies instantly.
10
Mother's hands framing the face
Two hands cupping the head, baby's eyes closed, tight crop.
11
Cradle by the window with curtain glow
Wider frame including the curtain and the light spill — gives the set one environmental photograph.
12
Side-lit profile
Baby side-on to the window, half the face in shadow. Quietly the most flattering light on newborn skin.

Why one month is easier than newborn
At days 5–14 the baby is at its most photogenic but also at its most fragile and unpredictable. By week four feeds are more regular, the baby holds sleep through handling better, and skin has settled — less peeling and redness to retouch. If you missed the newborn window, one month is not a compromise.
Getting a girl-child shoot right without pink overload
Themed pink setups look dated within a couple of years. Choose one accent — a wrap, a flower, a bow — and keep everything else neutral. The photographs then read as portraits of your child rather than of a trend.
Working around feeds and colic
Plan for 90 minutes even though the actual shooting is 20. Feed, burp, settle, then shoot. If colic hits, stop and reschedule the second half — pushing through gives you frames of a distressed baby that nobody prints.
No. The tightly curled newborn poses need days 5–14, but a one-month session gives you calmer sleep, settled skin and the first hints of expression. Many families prefer the results.
What should my one-month-old wear?
A plain muslin wrap or a simple bodysuit in a neutral shade. Skip outfits with text or characters — they date the photograph and pull attention from the face.
How long does a one-month home session take?
Plan 60–90 minutes. Actual shooting is around 20–30 minutes spread across the visit, with feeds and settling in between.
