    Maternity Photoshoot Ideas at Home

Quick answer: Home maternity shoots work best between weeks 28 and 34, using one window, a plain wall and two outfit changes — a fitted dress and a draped fabric. Keep poses gentle, shoot from slightly above, and include the partner and older siblings in at least a third of the frames.

A maternity shoot at home is quieter, cheaper and often more honest than a studio session — and the light in a Bengaluru apartment at 10 am is better than most people assume. These are the setups we shoot on home maternity sessions.

    14 ideas that work

    1. 1

Side profile against a bright window

The defining maternity frame. Stand side-on, hands under the bump, expose for the skin.

    2. 2

      Hands forming a heart

Simple, universally requested, takes ten seconds.

    3. 3

Partner's hands on the bump from behind

Both faces in frame, looking down. Warmer than the standard hug.

    4. 4

      Draped fabric silhouette

A long piece of chiffon or a saree wrapped loose, backlit by the window.

    5. 5

      Sibling kissing the bump

Kneel the older child down; shoot at their eye level.

    6. 6

Bare-bump close-up, cropped at the chin

Keeps it intimate rather than exposing. Shot in soft side light.

    7. 7

Sitting on the bed with sunlight patch

Wait for the light patch, sit in it, shoot wide then tight.

    8. 8

      Baby shoes on the bump

The one prop worth using — small, meaningful, already owned.

    9. 9

      Mirror frame

Standing side-on to a full-length mirror; both the reflection and the subject in frame.

    10. 10

      Reading to the bump

Partner or sibling reading aloud. Documentary rather than posed.

    11. 11

      Kitchen or balcony documentary frame

Everyday life at eight months — the frames people are gladdest to have later.

    12. 12

      The saree drape

A traditional drape over the bump, particularly for seemantham or valaikappu families.

    13. 13

      Black backdrop studio look

Dark bedsheet opposite the window turns any bedroom into a studio corner.

    14. 14

Closing frame with the whole family

Everyone in one wide frame — the last photograph before the family changes size.

    When to shoot

Weeks 28–34 give a clearly rounded bump while movement is still comfortable. Earlier than 28 and the bump reads small on camera; after 34 many mothers find standing for a session tiring, and there is a real risk of the baby arriving early.

    What to wear

One fitted outfit that shows the shape — a stretch dress or a bodycon top with the bump exposed — and one draped piece for softer frames. Avoid loose maternity kurtas on camera; they hide exactly what the shoot is documenting. Solid deep colours photograph better than prints.

    Posing comfortably at eight months

Sitting poses, leaning against a wall and side-lying on the bed carry most of a home session. Change position every few frames, keep water within reach, and stop the moment there is discomfort — a maternity session should never be endured.

    Frequently asked questions

When is the best time for a maternity photoshoot?
Between 28 and 34 weeks. The bump is clearly defined and most mothers are still comfortable standing and moving for a 90-minute session.
Can a maternity shoot be done at home in Bangalore?
Yes — most of our maternity sessions are shot in the client's home using window light. It is more comfortable, costs less in travel and produces more personal frames than a rented studio.
How much does a maternity photoshoot cost in Bangalore?
Our maternity packages start at ₹6,000 for The First Glow (2 hours, 15–20 edited images), ₹8,000 for Golden Hour (3 hours) and ₹18,000 for Heirloom, which adds printed sheets and a complimentary 10x12 frame. Hair and makeup can be added for ₹2,000.
Should the partner be in the maternity photographs?
In at least a third of them. The frames families reprint years later are almost always the ones with both parents, or with an older sibling, rather than the solo bump portraits.
